You give me reason to leave?
Well, you know I’ll stay.
You give me reason to stay?
Well, goodbye, baby, I’m on my way.
Underneath this poet’s moon
I move and I speak too soon.
I know needles and nails
I know Magalene and Christ
She makes the deal that he can pay the price.
She can walk corked, high and drunk and lost
And he gets the cross.
How would I know love now?

The lure of memories
That’s just a sucker’s game
I tried to heal your history
I guess you had me trained
Underneath this poet’s moon
I move and I speak too soon.
I know how much you have been using
How close you are to death
I know you have been using
I can smell it on your breath
I know that buying you off
Is so easy to do
Easier than holding back
Until you come, too.
How would I know love now?

Upon the breath of a bitter wind
Upon the wings of a hurricane
You blew in with the dust
Blew out just the same
You are a beggar in the depot
Bending to the floor
You are dirty clothes in a paper bag
Nameless in the morgue
You are a spirit on the highway
Appearing in the rain
You are an old ghost in the rail yard
You never saw the train
Underneath this poet’s moon
I move and and leave your tomb
Leave you underneath, paying for your crime
I am ready to go walking now .Walking in the light
I am ready to stand naked. To hunger and thirst.
I am ready to stand ignorant. I am ready for rebirth.
How would I know love now?
